For every Indian who said " I
want...", there was one man who dreamt and said,
"Of course. Why not?"
I am addressing this letter to all Indians living in hundreds
of our cities and lakhs of our villages.
It is addressed specially to young men and women, who nurture
in their eyes a dream - for themselves and for the country.
My father, Shri. Dhirubhai Ambani, was the son of a school
teacher. He began, literally, from scratch and made Reliance
into India's largest private sector company, and one of the
500 largest companies in the world. All within a short span
of time.
He achieved this miracle by involving over three million
ordinary men and women. Today, they constitute the huge family
of Reliance investors. He helped to bring prosperity and happiness
into their lives.
Dhirubhai Ambani rejected the belief that ordinary men and
women were destined to remain helpless in refashioning their
destiny.
He was, himself, a living testimony to what they can achieve.
They have only to be given a chance.
"A large majority of Indians cannot read and write,
but they can speak," he would say. "If you give
them the opportunity to talk to each other, they will perform
miracles," he would exhort us. He wanted to empower them.
Today, on Dhirubhai Ambani's 70th birthday, we are taking
an unprecedented initiative to empower crores of Indians by
connecting India's villages and towns with each other, and
with the rest of the world.
In his matchless style, he once said, "make a phone
call cheaper than a post card and you will usher in a revolutionary
transformation in the lives of millions of Indians."
As homage to Dhirubhai Ambani, Reliance Infocomm will give
